Elementary | grades K-4

Elementary school is a time for gaining independence and growing intellectually. At St. John's, we offer students opportunities to work individually, take responsibility for their work and behavior, and gain the confidence needed to advance to middle school.

The Elementary Approach

Working Independently

Although students are quite comfortable working with peers, elementary school exists to help students become independent thinkers, capable of forming their own opinions and drawing their own conclusions. They learn to complete assignments on their own and stand by their own convictions.

Taking Responsibility

It is during these formative years that elementary school students understand that they--and they alone--are responsible for themselves. They are expected to complete school work and homework, follow instructions, and own their actions.

Gaining Confidence

Through risk taking and opinion sharing, students realize they have the capacity to not only hold fast to their beliefs, but also shape the opinions of others. Students grow in leadership and use it to impact their peers and the world around them.

The Educational Environment

The classroom environment is one where students are allowed--and encouraged--to ask inquisitive questions about the subject material, offering them the safe space needed to feel accepted and confirmed in their natural examination of lesson materials. They thrive in an all-inclusive environment while collaborating and connecting with others.
